January 6, 2012: FULL MOON RISING

 Taking out the trash
looking up at the cold sky
greeted by the moon

This photo has convinced me to never go outside without my camera. There is so much beauty in the heavens.  According to the Old Farmer's Almanac this is the Full Wolf Moon, when wolves howled in hunger at the moon because they were hungry. This year, no snow. The full moon won't really hit until Monday night at 7:30.  I'll be watching.

One thing just led to the next and here I am posting one of my favorite walking songs.  No one better than Creedence Clearwater Revival to take a good brisk walk in the brightly moon-lit sky.  No nasty weather in sight, so this song should probably wait until February, or if we're lucky, March. But what the heck.

You can take the child out of the sixties, but you can't take the sixties out of the child.

  1. P.S. I really was taking out the trash! But I first got that line from a friend's Facebook status. Thanks Erin M. It was the best status update I have read to date.

  2. Love the song and love the moon. In fact, I noticed it myself last night. I was standing at the kitchen sink and saw it through the trees -- just as you pictured it. I even went to the back door to see it without the trees! As for the 60's, oh yes, we ARE the 60's. You couldn't be young then and not keep a part of it forever.

  3. Your cardinals are beautiful.
We have the first wolf in CA since 1924. He walked all the way across Oregon from his pack near the Washington/Oregon boarder. He wears a GPS collar so he can be tracked. All the ranchers have their shorts in a twist. They say he is going to kill all their cattle plus the deer and elk. Pretty big undertaking for a lone wolf with no hope of a girlfriend (since he is the only wolf in CA).

  4. Stunning picture.I'm a big fan of the moon and love to stare at it. Coincidentally, I've been thinking about CCR a fair bit lately and trying to teach myself to play an interpretation of their song 'Walk On The Water'. Great, great band.
